Virtual Reality In Real Estate

The future is here. Sure we haven’t quite mastered the hover-board, and flying cars have not yet arrived, but we are well on our way to perfecting some fantastic/futuristic technology that will change the way that we live our lives, do business, and approach real estate. The real estate word is responding to the  release of Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Google’s ever evolving mission to bring VR to the masses with unbridled enthusiasm. As a result, the virtual reality home-tour is developing at a rapid pace. The possibilities offered up by this technology are exciting to say the least.

Tallahassee’s own trailblazers, Thomas Adam Jackson and Jennifer L. Stowell are pioneering the path towards the virtual reality home-tour with the help of their Covalent Reality team. Co-founder Jennifer L. Stowell says that she wants to “streamline the home buying process,” and “make it easier and more efficient for buyers to pre-select homes.”

The Future Is Virtual

With the help of virtual reality, the real estate industry will look much different in the coming years. The use of virtual reality by the real estate industry is an example of the technology’s potential to expand into many other areas of business and life.

The capability is being fueled by the rise of Oculus and other virtual reality headsets. The VR trend was on display for the international community at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco as well as the Mobile World Congress in Spain this week. The trade shows featured companies such as HTC, Sony, Valve, and others showing the latest and greatest in virtual reality technologies. The new tech boasts untethered systems and higher frame rates that allow the experience to be that much more realistic.

A Real Game-changer

Buying a property can be a costly and time-consuming ordeal. The process can get even more difficult if the building needs to be constructed or the space renovated.  This is where virtual reality will save the day. VR will let prospective buyers experience the space before purchasing, renovating, or even breaking ground.  Can you imagine the time and money VR will save prospective buyers?

In the coming years, expect to see more and more VR being developed and used for real estate transactions. We are on the ground floor of something big and we expect it to be a real game-changer for the real estate industry. One day, perhaps, you won’t even need to leave your home to make an informed real estate decision.
