This weekend Jefferson County celebrated a landmark event; the 66th Annual Watermelon Festival. This year, a record breaking crowd gathered to celebrate the much-anticipated event in gorgeous downtown Monticello. Established in 1823, the historic community of Monticello still features many of its original antebellum and victorian homes. The moss draped oaks, historic homes, and quaint southern charm make the perfect backdrop for the much-loved family friendly event.

Every June, Jefferson County and the surrounding communities gather to recognize local area watermelon growers and the fantastic fruits of their labor. Held the third weekend of June, the festival boasts swinging local music, great food, arts and crafts, carnival rides, theater, car shows, pageants, street dances, a parade, watermelons, and much more. A time-honored summertime tradition, the Monticello Watermelon Festival  is a great way to celebrate the historic town of Monticello, its people, and all the beautiful town has to offer.
